Volunteers are the heart of the Turner Centre
The Turner Centre has been built on the many hours of love that volunteers have poured into our venue and services. We are privileged to have a space that is cared for by the community, for the community.
We currently have 68 active volunteers coming in and out of the Turner Centre on a regular basis. Each volunteer has an induction when they start, a tour of our wonderful facility, and receive a handbook. They will shadow someone experienced for their first few shifts; we have great on the job training.
Interested in joining the Turner Centre Team? We, are regularly looking for people in the following areas:
- Bar Staff
We want people with previous bar experience for this role, as we strive for a high-quality service, in a fast-paced environment. You will be taking food and drink orders from customers at the bar. You will be working in a team, with other volunteers, casual bar staff and a Duty Manager. The shifts are generally around 2 to 4 hours, mostly during evenings and weekends, although we do have some lovely lunchtime concerts too. - Ushers
As an usher you will show / direct people around the building, to their seats and control access to the Auditorium doors. In case of an emergency, you will help evacuate the building. The shifts are generally around 4 hours, mostly during evenings and weekends. - Ticket scanning
You are the first person to welcome our patrons to the Turner Centre and validate their tickets. Welcoming everyone with a smile is of up most importance. These shifts are 1.5 hours, an hour before the shows start and here for any late comers after the show starts. - Gardening
As part of our volunteer gardening team, you will be weeding, tidying and watering the gardens around the Turner Centre. The Gardening Team meets weekly on a suitable morning for 1-3 hours depending on the season.
Shifts are scheduled on an online platform, where our volunteers can take as many or as little shifts as they like. Even if you can help us out once a month, please get in touch! We need you to keep our wonderful venue going! The Turner Centre needs our community!
We celebrate our volunteers every year. We have a get together in June, during National Volunteers Week, and have a wonderful Christmas party in December, where volunteers, including our volunteer trustees, and staff all come together to celebrate the past year!
