Oscar and Tim Upperton: Book Launch New Transgender Blockbusters
Oscar and Tim Upperton’s book launch, readings, dialogue and local poets
Oscar Upperton is launching his first book of poetry, New Transgender Blockbusters (Victoria University Press), which has received rave previews. Both he and his father Tim Upperton will be reading at the Theatre Bar as part of their nationwide book tour: Oscar from his debut volume and Tim a selection of his work, chosen to create a dialogue between the two poets, between father and son.
Oscar and Tim will be joined in their poetry conversation by local poets reading short selections of their work, including members of the Bay of Islands Writing Group. There will be time for discussion and questions during this informal and inclusive event to celebrate the poetry of diversity and the diversity of poetry.
Both Uppertons have had individual publishing success, in North & South Magazine, The Spin Off, Metro and Best NZ Poems among others. Following A House on Fire, Tim’s second collection, The night we ate the baby, was an Ockham New Zealand Book Awards finalist in 2016. He won the Bronwyn Tate Memorial International Poetry Competition in 2011, and the Caselberg Trust International Poetry Competition in 2012 and 2013. His poems are anthologised in The Best of Best New Zealand Poems (Victoria University Press), Essential New Zealand Poems (Random House), Villanelles (Everyman), and Obsession: Sestinas in the Twenty-First Century (Dartmouth University Press).
Books will be available to buy. Entry is free at the Turner Centre Theatre Bar, and the bar will be open. Koha to cover costs is welcomed.
