Anna Valdoni & Jacqueline Aust
“Painting, for me, begins in perception and unfolds as response. What matters is not whether the image resolves as abstract or figurative, but whether it remains alive within its own internal necessity. Each work negotiates its own conditions, exceeding my initial control.
The canvas becomes a site of exchange — a dialogue in which improvisation and surprise are not deviations, but structural forces.” Anna
Jacqueline Aust’s printmaking practice centres on process, repetition, and the expressive potential of the mark. Working through techniques such as collagraph, etching, and monotype, she develops images in evolving series where each print carries subtle variation. The printing plate becomes both structure and starting point — a surface that records gesture, pressure, and revision. Through layering, inking, and reworking, Aust allows each work to shift and transform, revealing the dialogue between control, chance, and material.
