Art in the Bar: Whānau & Whakapapa – A Matariki Celebration Exhibition
Marking the season of Matariki, this special exhibition presents new work by local artists exploring the interconnected themes of whānau (family) and whakapapa (ancestry). Through a variety of forms and perspectives, the artists reflect on the relationships and genealogies that shape identity, connection, and memory through visual art.
Anchored in the values of remembrance, renewal, and collective reflection, the exhibition offers a thoughtful artistic response to the spirit of Matariki—inviting viewers to consider how family and ancestry continue to inform our place in the world.
Join us for the opening on Tuesday 3 June from 5–7pm. All are welcome to connect with the artists and experience the work in an informal, welcoming setting.
Free entry.
Open weekdays 9am–2pm through to mid-July.
Please note: Access may be limited during scheduled events in the bar. To confirm availability, contact the Turner Centre on 09 407 0260.
