About Art in the Bar
A group of artists will show their works simultaneously for a 2-month period. Each period there will be a different group of artist exhibiting their art.
In 2022 we are trialing this new initiative. It’s a great opportunity for local artists to exhibit and sell their works. If proven successful, this will be a permanent feature.

‘Ramping Up’ Youth & Emerging Art
KidsmART is pleased to support our Community’s Young and Emerging Artists through exhibitions held “on the ramps” at the Turner Centre.
Our inaugural Exhibition launches on 4th August and runs until 13th September, and we will be exhibiting Youth Artist, Hector Danilo and Emerging Artist, Jackson Ansted.
‘Youth’ are either Seniors at school or Graduates at College studying the Creative Arts and are invited to Exhibit alongside ‘Emerging’ Artists – those artists who have chose the creative field as their career path and are just starting on their journey.
“HEKTER MEETS THE LURKER”
Jackson, now aged 26, attended Kerikeri High School and achieved a Bachelor of Arts at Northtec. His artistic practice centres around his character ‘Lurker’. Through the interweaving of this character with various subcultural/pop culture references, Jackson aims at providing a light-hearted, tongue in cheek retrospective on his life engrossed within the subculture of skateboarding, the influence of various 80s-90s skateboarding literature, as well as to showcase the constantly interweaving relationship of music, cinema and subcultural artistic practice.
“Hekter” (Hector Danilo, currently Year 13 Kerikeri High School). creates fine line drawings that challenge the status quo. He was a finalist for the National Youth Arts Award in 2021, and won the Art trophy in two consecutive years at Kerikeri High School.
Hekter has already undertaken some stunning commission work depicting the current war in the Ukraine.
Open Evening: Thu 4th AUG, 5 – 7pm
Exhibition Runs: until 13th September
